Manchester escapes with 1-0 win over Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team came up just short, despite one if its finest efforts of the year, falling to a hot Manchester College squad by a slim 1-0 margin on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. The Beavers slipped to 2-12 on the season and 0-6 in the Heartland Conference, while the Spartans improved to 5-9-2 and 4-2 in the HCAC with their fourth consecutive victory.

The contest started off physical and was scoreless until the 28th minute when SpartanCARSON MCFADDEN connected with ANDREW GRAY on a corner kick for the lone goal of the match. Both teams continued to focus on defense as Manchester held on for the 1-0 conference victory.

The Beavers generated 16 shots (four on frame), but the Spartans countered with 25 and nine on target. Manchester forced six corner kicks while holding the home team to just one. The Spartans committed six more fouls than Bluffton (16-10). BRIAN GOOD (Elida) and DAN SAVILLE (Toledo/Central Christian) recorded five and three saves, respectively. Good led the Beavers with four shots during his half up top while fellow senior JACOB GRAHAM(Gomer/Elida) created three shots for Bluffton.

Bluffton travels to Terre Haute, Indiana, for a men's and women's doubleheader against Rose-Hulman on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The women kick off at 12 p.m. with the men slated for a 2 p.m. start.
