BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team took the lead in the first half and never looked back as the Beavers snapped a 13-match skid and picked up their first conference win since dropping Manchester in 2009. With the victory over long-time rival Defiance College on Thursday, October 28, 2010, the Beavers moved to 1-7 in the Heartland Conference and 3-13 overall, while Defiance dropped to 5-10-2 with a record of 1-6-1 in HCAC action.

Just shy of the 30 minute mark in the first half, freshman Dylan Matthews (Arlington) connected with senior and four-year starter Jacob Graham (Gomer/Elida) for the lone goal of the match, giving Bluffton the 1-0 win against the Yellow Jackets. Fellow senior Michael Timpe (Swanton) led the home team with four shots (two on target) and freshman Zach Sturm (Grove City) generated two shots for Bluffton.

Defiance produced two more shots than the Beavers (13-11) while forcing seven corner kicks and limiting the home team to just three. Bluffton keepers Brian Good (Elida) and Dan Saville (Toledo/Central Christian) recorded five and two saves, respectively, in the shutout victory. The Beavers were whistled for 20 infractions and three cards compared to 16 fouls and two cautions for the Jackets.

The Bluffton men's soccer team will travel to Hanover College for their final 2010 match on Saturday, October 30. The conference battle between the Beavers and Panthers is slated for 4 p.m.
