BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team played host to Anderson University in an HCAC match on Wednesday, Oct. 16, falling by a score of 3-2. A first half shootout turned into a stalemate in the second period with the Ravens holding on for the victory.

The scoring opened up early with the Beavers taking the advantage on a goal by PETER CARLSON (Toledo/Springfield) in the fifth minute, courtesy of an assist from freshman GRANT STUTZMAN (Sugarcreek/Hiland). That lead did not last for long, however, as Anderson answered less than a minute later when TODD CANAL scored off of an assist by BRADY MARSH.

Bluffton fought back and took the lead again when Stutzman headed a ball into the back of the net, assisted by BEN KNOTTS (Carrollton). The Beavers held onto the lead for five minutes before Anderson netted the equalizer with a goal from MAXXWEL RANCE.

Bluffton and Anderson battled back and forth through the rest of the half until the Ravens took the 3-2 advantage in the 34th minute thanks to Canal's 10th goal of the season and second of the half. Surprisingly enough, that would be the end of the scoring in the match as the defenses took over the rest of the way and Anderson held on and claimed the win.

Knotts led the Beaver attack, tallying three shots, while JORDAN ANDREWS (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley), T.J. KLINE(Mogadore/Lake Center Christian), Stutzman and DYLAN MATHEWS(Arlington) each had two shots.

Following the loss, Bluffton fell to 0-11 on the season and 0-4 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Anderson improved to 5-9 (1-3 HCAC). The Beavers will be back on the pitch this Saturday, Oct. 19, when they take on Hanover in another HCAC contest. That match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Sears Complex in Bluffton.
