Malaquias named graduate assistant for Beavers

June 14, 2017

BLUFFTON, Ohio - David Malaquias has been named the graduate assistant coach for men's soccer. Malaquias will work alongside Coach James Kusak as the primary assistant for the men's soccer program. He replaces Sean Elvert who was an assistant for the Beavers the past two seasons.

Malaquias comes to Bluffton after finishing his academic and athletic career at Misericordia University, where he played as a forward and was a significant contributor during his junior and senior seasons after battling injuries throughout his career.

"I want to thank Athletics Director Phill Talavinia, Coach Kusak, and Bluffton University for this great opportunity," said Malaquias. "I am excited for the opportunity to continue my education as I pursue an MBA starting in August. Additionally, I look forward to working with Coach Kusak and the men's soccer program as we look build on the improvements shown over the last year and a half."

Malaquias graduated from Misericordia University in May with a Bachelor of Science in sport management. A native of Swedesboro, NJ and originally born in Brazil, Malaquias has extensive experience as he previously worked in Manchester, England, with the Manchester County Football Association as a football development intern. Additionally, Malaquias has been involved with the NCAA where he helped organize NCAA DIII regional baseball tournaments.

"I am excited to have David join our program and family at Bluffton," Kusak said. "I really enjoyed spending time with David during the interview process, and it became clear early on that he has a love and respect for the game that connects with my philosophy. I think David's passion will carry over well as he transitions from player to coach. He comes highly recommended, and I am excited to see his contributions to the program over the course of the next two years."
