Bluffton slices through Blackburn in 7-0 shellacking

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team sliced through Blackburn College to the tune of a 7-0 shutout on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019. Blackburn slipped to 1-4-1 on the season, while Bluffton improved to 4-3, its most victories since 2014!

Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) found Christian Zapata (Livonia, MI/Adlai E. Stevenson) just nine minutes into the match as Bluffton scored early and often Friday evening. Taynor and Patrick Spillman (Anderson, IN/Frankton) hit paydirt later in the opening stanza as the visiting Beavers opened a 3-0 lead at the break.

Jacob Kiger (Groveport/St. Charles Prep) made it 4-0 in minute 53 before a pair of Hunter Coffey (Wapakoneta) scores in a span of less than three minutes pushed it to 6-0. Bishop Williamson (West Liberty/School Advertising Art) capped the scoring with a penalty kick at the 65:56 mark.

Bluffton finished with a marked 32-7 edge in shots as well as a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Beavers were whistled for five more fouls (9-4). Taynor and Kiger powered the offense with nine and five shots, respectively, while freshman Elijah Grieser (Wauseon/Pettisville) chipped in with four attempts.

The Beavers will be back on their home pitch Wednesday, Sept. 25, when Wooster comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. start at the Sears Complex. Come out and support your Beavers!
