Beavers pitch 2-0 shutout of UC-Clermont

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team scored early and scored late for a 2-0 victory over visiting UC-Clermont on a hot and muggy, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. Bluffton improved to 2-2-3 on the season while the Cougars fell to 1-4 overall.

Brycen Boyle (Middletown) connected with junior Alex Brown (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) just over two minutes into the match and that score held until freshman Christian Smits (Trufant, Mich./Big Rapids) collected JJ Meyer's (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) shot off the post and deposited it in the back of the net with nine minutes to play!

Bluffton finished with a decided 28-8 advantage in total shots, including 12-1 on frame. The Cougars were whistled for seven more fouls (13-6) as well as all three yellow cards in the match. Bluffton forced seven more corner kicks (9-2). 

Meyer led the way with a whopping seven shots on Saturday. Andrew Ireland (Coshocton/River View) and Leonardo Campos (Santiago, Chile/Campbellsville University) chipped in with three shots apiece.

Sophomore Zach Johnson (Middletown) picked up his first win of the season after securing a pair of ties. He had one save and did not allow a goal.

Bluffton is back at the Sears Complex for a 4:30 p.m. matchup with Heidelberg University on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
