Berea scores late for 3-1 win over Beavers

BEREA, Ky. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team allowed two goals in the final three minutes as Berea College downed the Beavers 3-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. Bluffton fell to 5-5-3 overall and 2-3 in the Heartland Conference, while the Mountaineers improved to 3-10-2 and 2-3 in the HCAC.

Berea found the back of the net less than three minutes into the contest and it made that lead hold up until minute 61 when JJ Meyer (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) netted the equalizer for Bluffton.

The Heartland Conference matchup appeared to be destined for a tie when Berea went on top at the 87:17 mark. Just before the final horn sounded the Mountaineers tacked on another tally for a 3-1 victory in the first HCAC meeting between the new rivals.

Bluffton finished with an 18-12 advantage in total shots, including 8-6 on frame. The visitors were whistled for two more fouls (11-9) and three of the four offsides calls Wednesday night. Bluffton also forced six of the eight corner kicks at Berea.

Senior Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) paced the offense with three shots, all on frame. Sophomore keeper Zach Johnson (Middletown) came up with three saves for the Beavers.

Bluffton is back on the road Saturday, Oct. 19, when the Beavers head to Anderson University for a women's and men's doubleheader with the Ravens. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
