Bluffton season comes to end at Transy

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team fell to Transylvania University 5-1 in the HCAC quarter-finals on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024. Bluffton wrapped up its season with a 6-7-5 mark, while Transy improved to 9-4-4 and the Pioneers will now face Hanover in the semifinals.

Transylvania jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the match, but the Beavers did not fold and they cut the deficit in half with a Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) tally at the 41:46 mark, making the score 2-1 at the break.

The Pioneers followed the same formula to kick off the second frame, netting a pair of scores in the first eight minutes for a commanding 4-1 lead. Transy tacked on another goal in minute 81 for the 5-1 victory that moves them into a matchup at Hanover on Tuesday.

Bluffton was on the wrong end of an 18-4 shot disparity, including 9-4 on frame. The Beavers were whistled for one more foul (5-4), while the Pioneers forced five of the six corner kicks Saturday in Lexington.

Clark put up two of Bluffton's shot attempts. Freshman Sean Smith (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) collected two saves in the second half, while Zach Johnson (Middletown) had one in the opening stanza.
