CANTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University swimming and diving team made the long trek across US 30 for the Mid Season Meet in Canton on Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23. A full slate of teams battled it out for supremacy at Malone University.
Freshman Justin Hassranah (Cunupia, Trinidad and Tobago/Vishnu Boys Hindu College) and sophomore Grant Patton (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) moved to 2nd and 4th all time, respectively, in the 200 backstroke. Hassranah finished in 2:22.50, while Patton dialed up a time of 2:23.18. The record books also saw movement in the 100 yard backstroke with Hassranah going 1:04.43 (3rd all-time). Patton was just outside the top 5 with a 1:05.97 at Malone.
Hassranah swam a 56:29 in the 100 freestyle, while Patton went 25:50 in the 50 yard freestyle.
On the women's side, both Jami Baker (Lowell, Ind.) and Sydney Grisier (Bryan) moved to the top of the record books! Baker now stands 1st all-time in the 500 yard freestyle with a 5:57.84, while Grisier placed 9th at Malone with a school-record 202.90 points in the 1-meter dives. Her dives gave the Beavers 20 of their 24 points over the weekend.
Baker's 1:08.94 was 27th at Malone and it is 2nd all-time, while Grisier's 26:39.71 in the 1,650 freestyle placed her 2nd all-time at Bluffton. A 59.67 had Baker 31st in the 100 yard freestyle.
Sophomore Havin Montague (Celina) also made her mark on the Bluffton record books in the 200 yard breaststroke (4th all-time) and the 400 yard IM (5th all-time) which earned the Beavers four more points.
Bluffton caps off its first-semester slate with a trip to Heidelberg on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. The Beavers will match up with the host Student Princes as well as another OAC school, Baldwin Wallace University.
