ASHLAND, Ohio - NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana - This past weekend, the Bluffton Swim and Dive team had their last two dual meets until conference. On Friday, Jan. 24, they headed to Ashland, Ohio, and on Saturday, Jan. 25, they went against Manchester University. Although the Beavers had a hectic week, all swimmers had outstanding performances!
Freshman Jami Baker (Lowell Ind./Lowell) swam the 100 breaststroke against Ashland, placing 2nd with a time of 1:17.54. The following day against Manchester she came out undefeated in both of her events! She forged seasonal bests in both the 100 breaststroke (1:15.93) and 50 breaststroke (32.68). Baker ended up breaking the 50 breaststroke record time by almost two seconds!
Junior Sydney Grisier (Bryan) took 1st in diving at Manchester with a score of 136.50 and also ended up dominating the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 16.35.90! Grisier also competed in the 500-yard freestyle and came out in 2nd with a time of 8:03.43.
Sophomore Havin Montague (Celina) had a remarkable performance against Ashland in the 200-yard freestyle, placing 3rd (3:12.03). She ended up with a seasonal best and dropped four seconds! Montague also placed 3rd in both the 200 IM (3:42.30) and the 100 backstroke (1:36.47) which was also a seasonal best for her!
Junior Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local) took 3rd in the 50 free (25.35) at Ashland. He also competed in the 100 freestyle (59.23) and the 100 breaststroke (1:25.34). At Manchester, he raced the 50 breaststroke (36.38), 50 freestyle (26.12) and 100 breaststroke (1.29.23).
At Ashland, freshmen Justin Hassranah (Cunupia, Trinidad and Tobago/Vishnu Boys Hindu College) competed in the 200 freestyle (2:14.83), placing 3rd; 50 freestyle (29.37), placing 4th; and the 100 backstroke (1:05.52) placing 3rd.
Freshman Landon Gardner (Whitehall, Mich./Grand Haven) raced in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.92), 100 freestyle (57.84) placing 3rd, and the 200 IM (2:42.21) at both Ashland and Manchester.
Bluffton Swim and Dive heads to the Heartland Conference Championships from February 12-15 at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., where they will compete for the final time this season.
