TIFFIN, Ohio- On Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, different groups of Beavers rode to Tiffin to compete in the large, Tiffin Track Carnival Meet.

In the men's 100m hurdles, senior Desmond Gist (Detroit, Mich./Trenton) took 4th place overall with a time of 14.38, which had him sitting at top 10 in the nation!

The men's 4x100 sprint team, comprised of team members Dontrayell Thomas (Madera, Cal./Edison), Russell Lough (Wintersville/Indian Creek), Simon Shawk (Galion) and Gist raced a team PR of 42.77, ranking them 2nd in school history with that time!

"Outside of those exceptional results, there were a lot of really strong performances for the team which was good to see because we are at the point in the season where my group should be most fatigued," explained Head Coach Ben Markison who works primarily with the jumps and sprints athletes.

The distance squad had a number of noteworthy performances on the day! Flying across the line and setting a new PR in the men's 5k race was freshman Grant Beasley (Versailles) with a time of 17:14

In the women's 5k race, junior Basil Gates (Galion) had a stellar performance, setting a new PR and landing a spot as 4th in the HCAC with a time of 19:23! Junior Sammie Unger (Kenton) also set a new PR of 21:14, and following was senior Jenia Freewalt (Delphos/St. John's), racing a season best with a time of 21:43!

"I think this group showed the resilience of being flexible with all the schedule changes. We didn't use those changes as an excuse and still had a really good day, and I'm excited to see what everyone can do when we hit our full peak for conference in a few weeks!" said Distance Coach Connor Gulick.

The Beavers went to Ohio Northern University on April 19-20 for their last regular season competition before the HCAC Championships!
