Bluffton runs at Mount Union Last Chance

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's 4X400 squad traveled to the campus of Mount Union in Alliance for the final qualifying event of the 2024 outdoor track and field season.

The 4x400 relay which consisted of Desmond Gist (Detroit, Mich./Trenton), Blayden McCoy (Fresno/Ridgewood), Simon Shawk (Galion) and Russell Lough (Wintersville/Indian Creek) broke their own school record which had stood for a whopping six days after being on the books since 2005 prior to last Friday! The fab four initially broke the record with a time of 3:17.27 at Baldwin Wallace last Friday before getting it done with a 3:16.38, nearly one second faster, at Mount Union on Thursday, May 16. It was also the 2nd-fastest time ever for a Heartland Conference school!

Gist (110 hurdles and long jump) and his fellow running mates will now wait to see if they have done enough to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Nationals slated for next Thursday, May 23 through Saturday, May 25 in Myrtle Beach, SC!
