Beavers open 2005 with a pair of shutouts

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Bluffton University softball team (2-0) picked up two shutout victories in their opening day of the Rebel Spring Games.

The Beavers came out strong in the first game of the day as they shutout Rhodes College 6-0. Junior pitcher SARAH BETTS (Bryan/Bryan) threw the shutout victory with freshman TONYA DEAN (Kettering/Fairmount) coming in to close the game in the last inning.

Junior MICHELLE METZGER (Lakeview/Indian Lake) scored two runs with sophomore CARRIE WEISBECKER(Okeana/Ross) hitting a triple and posting a lone RBI.

Bluffton came right back in game two to pick up their second win of the day against the Coast Guard Academy 2-0. Betts picked up her second win of the season on the mound as she threw a two hit game. Senior LANE LEEDY (Bellville/Clear Fork) posted a lone double in the contest.

The Beavers will play on Wednesday, March 9, against Misericordia (4:10 p.m.) and Penn-State Behrend (6 p.m.).
