BLUFFTON, Ohio - Junior pitcher SARAH BETTS (Bryan/Bryan) has been named the Heartland Conference's softball player-of-the-week for the week ending March 13.

Betts pitched in all six of the Beavers games last week to finish the Rebel Spring Games with a 4-2 record on the mound and a 0.79 earned run average. Betts posted 46 strikeouts and gave up only 17 hits in 35 innings pitched. She allowed only seven earned runs and held her opponent's to a .133 batting average.

"This is a great way for Sarah to start the season and represent Bluffton," head coach Holly Spann said. "I hope she is able to keep up her solid performances throughout the rest of the season and have a good year on the mound."

In Betts' four wins, three were shutout victories as she allowed only five extra-base hits and walked 13 batters. On Friday, March 11, Betts broke the Bluffton University career pitching wins record as she tallied her 39th career victory against Maryville. She broke the former record of 38 career wins held by Erin Kurtz, who played from the 1997-2000 seasons.

The Beavers sit at 4-2 for the season. The team will be back in action this Wednesday, March 16, when they host Ohio Northern University. The twinbill is scheduled for 3 p.m.
