Bluffton splits double header with Denison after game one loss

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University softball team (6-4) picked up a win and a loss against Denison University on March 22. The Big Red won the first game 1-0 in eight innings with the Beavers picking up the victory in game two 4-2.

Junior MICHELLE METZGER (Lakeview/Indian Lake) connected on Bluffton's only hit in game one. Junior pitcher SARAH BETTS (Bryan/Bryan) threw a two-hitter for the loss on the mound. Betts walked four and struck out six batters in the contest. The contest was a deadlocked pitcher's battle until Denison scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth off of a passed ball. The Beavers could not score in the bottom half of the inning for the loss 1-0.

Senior MANDY SNIDER (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) led Bluffton's bats in the nightcap as she posted two hits, scored two runs and knocked in one RBI. Five other Bluffton players connected on one hit each in the contest. Betts recorded the win in game two to take her record to 5-4 on the mound for the season. Bluffton led the contest from the first inning on as the Beavers picked up the win 4-2.

Bluffton University will be back in action on Friday, March 25, when they travel to Alma College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
