BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University softball team (8-4) won both games against Case Western Reserve University (3-11) on March 28. The Beavers won game one in extra innings 2-1 and easily took the nightcap 10-1.

The first game was deadlocked as there was no score heading into the top of the eighth inning. Case Western scored a lone run to go up 1-0 as the Beavers came up to bat in the bottom half of the eighth.   Sophomore CARRIE WEISBECKER (Okeana/Ross) then scored the tying run off of a passed ball to make the game one all. The Beavers then worked the CWRU pitcher to load the bases with senior MANDY SNIDER (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) up to bat. Snider bolted a long single to the outfield to score senior JACKIE WELLS (Napoleon/Patrick Henry) and give the Beavers the 2-1 victory.

Freshman TONYA DEAN (Kettering/Fairmount) picked up her second win of the year as she came in to close the contest in the seventh. Junior SARAH BETTS (Bryan/Bryan) started the game and posted nine strikeouts.

Bluffton started out game two in good fashion as they went up 3-1 after the first inning. The Beavers then knocked out seven more runs in the bottom of the second for the final score of 10-1. Junior MICHELLE METZGER (Lakeview/Indian Lake) led Bluffton in the game as she went 2-for-2 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Junior LINDSAY MILLER (Grover Hill/Wayne Trace) went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Dean threw the one hitter to pick up the win on the mound to take her record to 3-0 for the season.

The Beavers will be on the road this upcoming Wednesday, March 30, when they travel to Wittenberg College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
