Beavers lose two to MSJ in HCAC action

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University softball team (14-6, 2-2 HCAC) was defeated twice by conference foe Mount St. Joseph (9-10, 2-2 HCAC) on April 15. The Lions took game one 5-2 in eight innings and the nightcap 10-0.

Mount St. Joseph went up 1-0 in the top of the fourth in game one. Bluffton scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh when junior MICHELLE METZGER (Lakeview/Indian Lake) hit a bunt to score freshman SARAH NUSBAUM (Sherwood/Fairview). The Lions then scored four runs in the top of the eighth with Bluffton being able to put one more run on the board in the bottom half of the inning for the 5-2 loss.

Senior MANDY SNIDER (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) led the team in the first game as she went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Four other Beavers posted one hit each in the game. Freshman TONYA DEAN (Kettering/Fairmount) picked up the loss on the mound as she gave up seven hits and struck out one batter.

Mount St. Joseph won the second game (10-0) as they spread their runs over the second, third and seventh innings. Mandy Snider led the team offensively again as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Senior LANE LEEDY (Bellville/Clear Fork) and sophomore CARRIE WEISBECKER(Okeana/Ross) posted one double each in the outing. Tonya Dean received the loss in game two to take her record to 4-2 for the year. Dean gave up six hits sand struck out one in the finale.

Bluffton University will be back in action tomorrow, April 16, when they host Huntington College. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Marbeck Field.
