Beavers take one game from conference leading Transylvania

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University softball team (18-9, 5-4 HCAC) picked up one win against conference leading Transylvania University (19-7-1, 9-1 HCAC) on April 28. Transylvania won the first game 2-0 with the Beavers taking the nightcap 13-5.

The Pioneers scored early on in the first game as they put up their two runs in the top of the first inning for the 2-0 final. Five different Bluffton players posted one hit each in the game. Senior ALLISON LANGE (Archbold/Archbold) hit a double for the only extra base hit of the contest. Junior pitcher SARAH BETTS (Bryan/Bryan) received the loss as she allowed five hits, walked four and struck out 10 batters.

Game two of the twinbill started out much like game one as Transylvania went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Bluffton answered right back as every player batted in the bottom half of the inning, and the team scored 10 runs. The Pioneers scored two more runs in the top of the second inning with Bluffton scoring one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth for the 13-5 final.

Senior MANDY SNIDER (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) knocked out a grand slam home run as she went 1-for-3 on the game. Snider also posted two runs scored and four RBI's. Sophomore CARRIE WEISBECKER (Okeana/Ross) connected on two hits in the contest. Sarah Betts picked up the win on the mound to take her record to 13-6 on the season. Betts gave up five hits, walked three and struck out two batters in the finale.

Bluffton University will be back in action on April 30 when they travel to Anderson University. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
