Case Western defeats Bluffton 11-10 in one game

BLUFFTON, Ohio. - The Bluffton University softball team (7-8, 0-0 HCAC) fell to Case Western Reserve on Saturday, March 25, 2006. The Beavers made a late rally but came up on the short end with the final score 11-10 in favor of Case Western.

GAME ONE - CASE WESTERN 11, BLUFFTON 10

Bluffton started off the game as LINDSAY MILLER (Haviland/Wayne Trace) drew a first inning walk, stole second, and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. MICHELLE MOTTER(Lakeview/Indian Lake) was then walked and later stole second. CARRIE WEISBECKER(Okeana/Ross) reached on an error by Case pitcher AMANDA BELL that plated Miller and Motter. Weisbecker then scored on a single by Amanda Harris (Greenville/Greenville).

Case Western answered back in the bottom half of the inning as they had four runs cross the plate. L. Smith's sac bunt scored L. Seeds, while an error allowed another run to score. J. Bullen then doubled to left  center driving in two more runs.

The Beavers put up two runs in the third when Motter drew a walk and advanced to third on a single by Weisbecker.  Sarah Betts laid down a sacrifice bunt that allowed Motter to score and moved Weisbecker to third. Amanda Harris drove in Weisbecker with a groundout to the pitcher

In the fourth inning, the Spartans turned four hits into three runs.  Then in the fifth Case scored four runs as C. Casden's single drove in a run and Bell homered to left center to drive in three.

The Beavers started to show life in the seventh inning as they mustered up five runs on two hits and two errors. Unfortunately, they left the tying run on base and found themselves one run short of the Spartans
