Strike-Out Cancer

BLUFFTON, Ohio - On Friday, April 20, 2007 the Bluffton University softball team hosted its first annual Strike-Out Cancer event prior to the Bluffton vs. Mount St. Joseph doubleheader.

Strike-Out Cancer and events like this represent the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.

More than three million volunteers across America and Canada are involved and waging the battle against cancer on every front: research, education, prevention, service and advocacy.

Retired professor Mary Ann Sullivan, a cancer survivor who taught in the English and history of art education departments at Bluffton from 1972 through 2006, was honored to throw out the first pitch on Friday as the Beavers swept HCAC rival Mount St. Joseph, 7-4 and 4-1.

The softball team raised over $900 for the American Cancer Society and it plans to make this an annual event at Bluffton University.
