Babcock and Miller named HCAC Players of the Week

April 7, 2008

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Junior LINDSEY MILLER (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) and sophomore BROOKE BABCOCK (Findlay/Findlay) were recently named Players of the Week in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Babcock was selected as Pitcher of the Week while Miller picked up her third Hitter of the Week award this season.

Babcock posted a 3-1 mark on the mound with a 2.33 earned run average as Bluffton went 5-1 for the week, including 4-0 in the Heartland Conference. All three of her victories were in conference action. She gave up 25 hits and just nine runs, eight earned, in 24 innings of work. Babcock struck out 13 batters and walked just two for the week while tossing three complete games. After holding Transylvania to a pair of runs in game one on Saturday, she worked the final three innings for the win in the nightcap.

Miller continued to dominate opposing pitchers as she collected her third HCAC Hitter of the Week award after being named the Heartland Conference Player of the Month for March. She led the Beavers to a pair of crucial HCAC road sweeps at Transy and Mt. St. Joseph over the weekend. The junior shortstop went 9-for-19 at the dish (.474) with six runs scored, nine RBI, a stolen base and a double. Her two solo home runs at Mt. St. Joseph in game one on Sunday moved her Bluffton single-season record to eight dingers. She also broke the single-season RBI mark of 33 with a sacrifice fly in the Beavers 9-1 victory over the Lions.

Bluffton (14-12, 4-2 HCAC) currently stands second in the conference behind Rose-Hulman (15-7, 6-2 HCAC) as the Beavers return home for a pair of important HCAC matchups with Manchester and Franklin this week. Bluffton hosts Manchester at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.
