BLUFFTON 10, HEIDELBERG 1

 

The Bluffton offense started off hot in the first inning as JAYME MARBAUGH (Ohio City/Parkway) singled and advanced to second with a rip by CHELSIE OSBORNE(Chillicothe/Waverly). Marbaugh then raced home and Osborne took third with a double to right field by HCAC Player of the Month LINDSEY MILLER (Wapakoneta). Four consecutive walks allowed both Osborne and Miller to score.

 

In the top of the fifth, Osborne reached on a throwing error and continued to second on the play. Another Heidelberg error then allowed BROOKE BABCOCK (Findlay) to reach first. A fielder's choice loaded the bases before EMILY MANAHAN (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) drove the ball down the right field line for a double and a pair of RBI. A single by DANIELLE SHORTSLE(Alma, Mich./Alma) plated senior pitcher KELLIE KENNEY (Toledo/Emmanuel Baptist) for the third run of the inning.

 

To start the next inning, Marbaugh reached on a throwing error and came around on an Osborne homer down the left field line. In the last frame, Manahan reached on a dropped popup. JESSICA MCDONALD (Mechanicsburg) then doubled to center field, giving Manahan the green light for home plate. McDonald scored on a Heidelberg fielding error as the Beavers knocked off the Student Princes, 10-1.

 

Osborne went 3-for-4 in the first game with two RBI and three runs scored. Marbaugh tallied two hits while Miller, Kenney, Manahan, and McDonald each added one safety.

 

Babcock improved to 10-4 and gave up just one run on one hit in five innings of work while producing six strikeouts. KRISTIN AGAUAS (Bloomfield, Mich./Andover) limited the Student Princes to a lone hit during the final two innings while securing the Bluffton victory.

 

BLUFFTON 9, HEIDELBERG 5

 

The Beavers took the lead early with Marbaugh driving a single to center field. After stealing second and advancing to third on a groundout, Marbaugh scored when Miller reached on a throwing error for the first run in the contest.

 

In the top of the second, McDonald walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Manahan. TIFFANY BUCKMASTER (Lima/Bath) walked before a bunt single by ALLISON WHITE (Lima/Shawnee) loaded the sacks. Osborne doubled to left center and collected three RBI before Marbaugh singled her home.

 

In the fourth frame, Marbaugh singled to left center and she moved to third when Heidelberg's throw on her attempted steal sailed into center field. Kenney singled up the middle to bring Marbaugh home. The next inning, McDonald walked and advanced to second on another sacrifice bunt by Manahan. After moving to third on a groundout, McDonald crossed the plate thanks to a rip up the middle by White.

 

Marbaugh smashed her fourth single and advanced to second with a one-base hit by Miller in the sixth. After Marbaugh stole third, Babcock singled to left field and allowed Marbaugh to score while Miller took second. Two consecutive walks allowed TORRIE WILSON (Delphos/Jefferson) to score as Bluffton picked up its second victory in the day over Heidelberg, 9-5.

 

Marbaugh led the Beaver offense with four singles and three runs. Both Miller and White went 2-for-4 in the second game.

 

Heidelberg generated five runs and five hits off of Kenney (8-3) before freshman pitcher Kristin Agauas collected her second save of the season with six strikeouts and no hits allowed over the final three frames. Agauas worked five innings of relief on the afternoon and fanned nine Heidelberg hitters while not allowing a run.

 

Bluffton returns to action on Thursday, April 9, when the Beavers travel to Manchester College. The first game of the conference doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m. against the Spartans.
