TRANSYLVANIA 3, BLUFFTON 2

 

After two scoreless innings, the Pioneers scored a run in the top of the third thanks to a hit, an error, a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly. The Beavers responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as BROOKE BABCOCK (Findlay) drew a free pass and advanced to second on the first sacrifice bunt of the year by LINDSEY MILLER (Wapakoneta). A KELLIE KENNEY(Toledo/Emmanuel Baptist) single allowed pinch runner ALLISON RADOMSKI(Fairfield/Cincinnati Christian) to knot the score at one.

 

Two innings later, Babcock singled to center field with two outs. A two-base knock to right center by Miller plated Babcock for a 2-1 lead over the Pioneers.

 

With one out in the top of the seventh, KENDRA DEARK took first when the umpire signaled that a Babcock changeup in the dirt hit her. Following a meeting of the umpires to discuss the call, Transy catcher KAITLYN KALLENBORN drilled the scoreboard in left center, knocking out a light with her fifth homer of the season and giving the Pioneers an outright HCAC regular championship when the Beavers went down in order in the home half of the inning.

 

Miller, Kenney, Babcock and TORRIE WILSON (Delphos/Jefferson) were the only Beavers to record a hit in the lidlifter as DeArk did the job for Transylvania on the mound. Babcock (14-6) pitched all seven innings and allowed just five hits and three runs, two earned, while fanning three batters with no walks.

 

BLUFFTON 8, TRANSYLVANIA 0 (6 INNINGS )

 

The Beavers erased any thoughts of another game coming down to a call by tallying four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning en route to their 8-0 dismantling of the Pioneers.

 

After being walked and moving to second on a groundout in the bottom of the first, Wilson took third on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch on ball four put Babcock on first while Wilson scurried to the plate for the first run of the game. A single to center field by Miller sent Babcock on second. TIFFANY BUCKMASTER (Lima/Bath) pinch ran for Babcock and crossed the plate on a Transy fielding error.

 

In the bottom of the third, Babcock singled down the right line before Miller followed with a rip down the opposite line. A single by Kenney through the left side loaded the bases. CHELSIE OSBORNE (Chillicothe/Waverly) picked up two RBI on her single down the left field line which put the Beavers up 4-0 over the Pioneers.

 

Pinch hitter JESSICA MCDONALD (Mechanicsburg) accepted a free pass to open the bottom of the sixth inning before pinch runner DANIELLE SHORTSLE (Alma, Mich./Alma) took her place at first. Shortsle stole second and Price walked. Wilson laid down a perfect bunt which loaded the bases when the Pioneers could not record an out. JAYME MARBAUGH (Ohio City/Parkway) stepped to the plate and promptly smashed the ball through the left side, sending Wilson, Shortsle and Price home when it got by the left fielder. A groundout moved Marbaugh to third and Miller singled up the middle, giving Marbaugh the green light for the plate as the Beavers slammed the Pioneers by an 8-0 count in six innings.

 

Miller led the Bluffton offense, going 3-of-4 with three singles and Marbaugh pounded out two hits in the second contest. Osborne and Marbaugh both collected two RBI while Wilson crossed the plate twice.

 

Freshman hurler KRISTIN AGAUAS (Bloomfield, Mich./Andover) improved to 5-1 as she was phenomenal, throwing a one-hitter with two walks in her shutout against Transy. Agauas overwhelmed the Pioneers with eight strikeouts in the victory.
