Transy too much for Beavers in sweep on Senior Day

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University softball team ran into a buzzsaw on Senior Day as Transylvania University took a pair of Heartland Conference from the Beavers. Transy improved to 18-8 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while the Beavers fell to 6-25 and 3-11 in the HCAC.

A two-run sixth inning homer by sophomore standout Bobbi Adams (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) was the only offense Bluffton could muster as the Beavers dropped a 7-2 decision in the opener. Transy made short work of the home team in game two, hanging a 9-0 mercy-rule decision on the Beavers.

Freshman Katie Fleshman (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) took the loss in game one, allowing six runs on five hits in three innings of work. She struck out two and walked two. Sophomore Erin Norman (Pleasant Hill/Newton) kept the Beavers in it with four innings of one-run hurling. She limited the potent Pioneer offense to three hits with two walks.

Senior Riley Langstaff (Findlay) went 2-of-2 in game two, giving her three hits on the afternoon, including a double to left center that broke up Kameron Bowling's no-hitter in the fifth inning of game one.

'Big Toe' Katie McCord (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) fell to 2-8 after giving up nine runs on 10 hits in three innings of work. Norman tossed two no-hit frames as the Beavers dropped a 9-0 decision in five innings.

Bluffton will put a wrap on its 2021 season with a trip to Anderson University on Sunday, May 2. The first pitch against the Ravens is slated for 1 p.m.
