Beavers fall to Wilmington 78-70

Bluffton College fell to a tough Wilmington College squad by a 78-70 final score Thursday night in Founders Hall. Wilmington improves to 9-1 on the season, while Bluffton falls to 4-5 and will host Muskingum College on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Bluffton took a 68-66 lead with 2:01 left in the game, but Wilmington went on a 10-0 scoring run over the next 1:58 to take a ten point lead before BC could score again. Wilmington's Heather Meranda scored six points during that run and finished with a game-high 22 points.

Bluffton's Liz Bock and Kristin Helvey each scored 15 points to lead the Beavers. Elizabeth Snavely chipped in nine points. Bock added three blocks, while Helvey dished out a game-high six assists.

Bluffton held the Quakers to a .358 shooting clip from the field, but Wilmington outrebounded the Beavers 54-31 and converted 24 of 29 free throw attempts. 

There were 33 ties or lead changes in the game as Bluffton attempted to knock off last season's Heartland Conference champions. Wilmington is now a member of the Ohio Athleti Conference.
