Bluffton nabs 66-58 win over MSJ in HCAC opener

Bluffton College opened up their Heartland Conference schedule Wednesday night at home against The College of Mount St. Joseph and walked away with a 66-58 victory. Bluffton is now 1-0 in the HCAC and 6-5 overall. BC will travel to Defiance College on Saturday.

Senior Elizabeth Snavely (Defiance) and sophomore Kristin Helvey (Toledo/Central Catholic) each scored 18 points to lead Bluffton. Helvey also added five assists, five rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Michelle Ray (Kenton) chipped in nine points and five boards, while senior Liz Bock (Maumee) collected seven points and tied senior Jen Bear (Grover Hill/Lincolnview) with a team-high eight rebounds.

Mount St. Joseph's Christina Brown led the Lions (5-6, 0-1 HCAC) with 14 points. Shauna Bemmes added 12 points, while Rebecca Petty grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Mount St. Joseph entered the game with the league's top rated defense, and the 66 points scored by the Beavers is the second-highest opponent point total given up this season by the Mount.
