Double-doubles for Bear and Bock lift Bluffton past Thomas More 74-60

Two Bluffton College senior basketball players turned in double-double performances Saturday afternoon as Bluffton topped a visiting Thomas More College squad 74-60 in Founders Hall.

Liz Bock (Maumee) and Jen Bear (Grover Hill/Lincolnview) both collected double-digit points and rebounds as the Beavers evened their 2000-01 record at 8-8. Bock scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Bear scored 14 points and collected 11 rebounds.

Senior Kristy Crall (Bucyrus/Wynford) netted 13 points and sophomore Kristin Helvey dished out a game-high eight assists.

BC scored the final 11 points of the first half to take a 41-29 lead at halftime, but the visiting Saint squad went on a 16-3 run early in the second half to tie the score at 50-50 with 10:12 left to play. The Beavers took control of the game at that point, however, outscoring Thomas More 19-2 over the next eight minutes to go up by 17 points before eventually settling for their 14 point win.

Thomas More falls to 8-10 on the season and was led by Bridget New with 20 points.

Bluffton will return to Heartland Conference action Wednesday night as the Beavers host Anderson University at 7:00 in Founders Hall.
