Bear ties BC record with 33 points but Bluffton falls in OT at Hanover 92-89

Senior Jen Bear (Grover Hill/Lincolnview) tied a Bluffton College women's basketball record with 33 points, but the Beavers fell in overtime at Hanover College Saturday afternoon 92-89.

Bluffton overcame a 15-point second half deficit to tie the score at 86-86 at the end of regulation, the Hanover outscored BC 6-3 in the extra session to improve to 7-2 in the Heartland Conference and 13-8 overall. Bluffton falls to 9-11 overall and 3-6 in the HCAC.

Bear's point total ties the BC record held jointly by Cheryl Althaus against Heidelberg in the 1980-81 season and Laurie Blough against Findlay during the 1975-76 season. Bear connected on 16 of 21 shots from the floor and led the Beavers with six rebounds.

Sophomore Kristin Helvey (Toledo/Central Catholic) collected 18 points and a game-high five assists, while senior Elizabeth Snavely added 16 points.

Hanover's Jennifer Skaggs came within one point of the Hanover College single-game scoring record as she scored 40 points on 18-30 shooting.
