Bluffton College kept the score close for most of the first half, but Alvernia College pulled away down the stretch to collect a 74-47 win on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament.
Junior Kristin Helvey's layup with 10:37 left in the first half cut Alvernia's lead to just one point at 14-13, but it would all the closer the Beavers would get.
Junior Melissa James scored 10 points to be the only BC player to score in double figures. She added a team-high three assists and two steals and was named to the all-tournament team.
Helvey added nine points and a team-high six rebounds, while junior Lyndsey Robinson chipped in eight points.
Bluffton must now gear up for their home opener, as BC will host Cedarville University on Tuesday night at 7:00 in Founders Hall.
