MSJ pulls away from Beavers with 83-65 win

December 15, 2001

Bluffton College had their first victory of the season in their sights Saturday afternoon, but The College of Mount St. Joseph pulled away down the stretch to collect an 83-65 win over the Beavers in Founders Hall.

Bluffton trailed by just six points at 61-55 with 7:03 left in the game, but an 11-1 run at that point by the Lions extended their lead to 16 points with five minutes to go, and BC didn't get within 12 points the rest of the way. The Mount's 18-point margin of victory was their largest lead of the game.

Junior Michelle Ray scored a season-high 19 points to lead Bluffton. Junior Lyndsey Robinson and freshman Cara Young both chipped in nine points each.

Bluffton falls to 0-8 overall on the season and 0-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Mount St. Joseph snaps a five-game losing streak to improve their overall record to 4-5 and 1-3 in the HCAC.

Bluffton will return to action on Monday night as Otterbein College visits Founders Hall at 7:30.
