Former University of Akron assistant basketball coach Amanda Curtis has been named the new women's basketball coach at Bluffton College.

Curtis spent last season with the Zips women's basketball program and will graduate from Akron in August with a master's degree in sport science education.

She is a 2001 graduate of Albion College, Mich., where she spent three seasons as a student assistant coach after one season as a player. Curtis brings an outstanding academic record to Bluffton, where she will serve as an assistant professor in the department of health, physical education and recreation.

Curtis is a 1997 graduate of Edon High School in Edon, Ohio, where she played basketball under head coach Suzanne Hollabaugh, who was inducted into the Bluffton College Hall of Fame in 2001.

Curtis becomes the tenth head women's basketball coach at Bluffton as the Beavers begin their 35th season of competition this winter with 13 letterwinners back from last season's squad. Former head coach Cathy Bonner resigned for family reasons in June after one season.

Bluffton plays their first four games at home this winter, with the 2002-03 season scheduled to tip off on November 22 as the Beavers host Adrian College 7 p.m. in Founders Hall.
