MSJ picks up 80-62 win at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's basketball team (4-12, 1-4 HCAC) was defeated 80-62 by Mount St. Joseph (8-8, 2-3 HCAC) on Jan. 19 in Founders Hall.

The Beavers jumped out to an early 13-2 lead four minutes into the game but could not hold on as the Mount came back and took the lead for good, 20-19 with 5:58 left in the first half. The Lions posted solid shooting in the first period at 52 percent (14-of-27) compared to 37 percent (10-of-27) for Bluffton. Combined with 14 first period turnovers, the Beavers found themselves down by 10 points at halftime 33-23.

Bluffton fought their way back into the game in the second half and came within five points twice early on. The Mount would go on a 15-0 run midway through the period and the Beavers never recovered losing by a final score of 80-62.

Bluffton finished the game by shooting 41 percent (25-of-60) compared to the Lions 53 percent (31-of-59). The Beavers were also out rebounded by Mount St. Joseph 39-35.

Leading Bluffton on the game was freshman Ashleigh Stallkamp (Paulding/Paulding) with 16 points and a team-high six rebounds. Freshman Amanda Bell (Napoleon/Liberty-Center) posted a career high with 13 points and tied her career high in assists with four.

The Beavers will be back in action on Jan. 22 when they travel to Anderson University. The HCAC contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
