Chad Shutler named women's basketball head coach

 BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University athletics department has announced that Chad Shutler has accepted the position of head women's basketball coach beginning with the 2005-06 academic year. Shutler will also teach in the health, physical education and recreation department.

Shutler graduated from Heidelberg College in 1997 with a health and physical education teaching degree. He received his master's degree from Bowling Green State University in Education in 1999.

"We are very pleased to have attracted a candidate of Chad Shutler's caliber to lead the women's basketball team," athletics director Phill Talavinia said. "We look forward to Chad creating an atmosphere for success both on and off the court."

Shutler was the assistant boy's basketball coach this past season at Columbus Grove high school. From 2000-04 he was the head boy's basketball coach at Bluffton high school. Prior to taking the head coaching position, Shutler was an assistant on the Bluffton high school team from 1999-2000. Shutler was also chosen to coach the OHSBCA and district eight all-star game in 2004.

Shutler was a graduate assistant coach, under men's basketball coach Guy Neal, with the Bluffton men's team from 1997-99. He also coached both the Bluffton men's and women's tennis teams during his graduate assistantship. Shutler was the junior varsity boy's basketball coach from 1996-97 and was a freshman/volunteer junior varsity coach at Tiffin Columbian high school from 1994-96.

Shutler, his wife Wendy, and two sons Tyson and Landon reside in Bluffton.
