Beavers defeat Tri-State 64-59 for second consecutive home victory

The Bluffton University women's basketball team (2-2) defeated Tri-State University 64-59 on Saturday, November 26 in Founder's Hall. The win marks the second home victory for the Beavers in as many games. Bluffton had not won back-to-back home games since the 2000-01 season when that squad defeated Thomas More College 74-60 on January 20 and Anderson University 60-51 on January 24.

Leading the way for the Beavers was sophomore ASHLEIGH STALLKAMP (Paulding/Paulding) who finished with a game-high 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore LINDSAY BUSH (Howard/East Knox) recorded a double-double on the afternoon as she poured in 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Bush also added five blocks. Senior KARIN SCHALLER(Jenera/Arlington) grabbed 10 rebounds and added five points for the victors. AMANDA BELL (Napoleon/Liberty Center) dished out a team-high five assists. 

Bluffton came into the contest well prepared and ready to play. The Beavers took an early one point lead at the 13:43 mark (9-8) before a Dana Dunham three-pointer gave Tri-State a two point advantage. The Thunder led by five points (24-29) with 4:30 left to play in the half before a TANYA RICKENBERG (Defiance/Paulding) layup cut the Tri-State lead to three points and gave the Thunder a 29-26 cushion at halftime.

A Shanna Hoogenboom three-pointer put the Thunder up by seven points at the 18:30 mark in the second period. The Beavers came storming back and an ANGIE LEE (Mt. Blanchard/Vanlue) layup gave Bluffton a one point advantage with eleven minutes remaining in the game. Both teams played solid offense as the score changed hands four times in the next nine minutes. A Bell three-pointer with 2 minutes left in the game gave the Beavers a 57-54 lead. Bluffton pushed forward with great defense and clutch free throws to take the game 64-59.

For the contest the Beavers shot 45 percent (27-60) from the field compared to Tri-State's 29 percent (22-75) shooting. Bluffton grabbed 51 rebounds while the Thunder only managed 26 boards.

The Beavers will be back in action on Wednesday, November 30 when they travel to Heidelberg College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
