The Bluffton University women's basketball team (2-4) hosted Denison University on Saturday, December 3, 2005 in Founders Hall. The Big Red were too much for the Beavers as Bluffton lost the contest by a final score of 65-45. Denison came out strong in the second half and the Beavers let the game slip from their grasp.

Bluffton and Denison battled hard in the first minutes of the game as tight defense and key buckets kept the game close. The Big Red led by six points with ten minutes to play before an ANGIE LEE (Mt. Blanchard/Vanlue) three-pointer cut the lead to three. Sophomore ASHLEIGH STALLKAMP (Paulding/Paulding) connected on a layup to cut the Denison advantage to one point with 9:27 to play in the half. The Big Red then went on a four minute run, scoring seven consecutive points to take an eight point lead with less than four minutes to play. Layups by TANYA RICKENBERG (Paulding/Paulding) and Lee and foul shots by freshman SARAH BRUNER (Wauseon/Pettisville) brought the Beavers to within four points with less than a minute to play. Denison's KRISTEN SHEFFIELD hit a jumper with seven seconds on the clock to give the Big Red a six point halftime advantage.

The second half started slowly for the Beavers as Denison jetted out to a 15 point lead six minutes into the half. A bucket by Lee and four points by AMANDA BELL (Napoleon/Liberty Center) cut The Big Red's lead to nine points. Despite key shots and tough defense by Bluffton, Denison controlled the rest of the second half. The Big Red won the contest by a final score of 65-45 and improved to 6-1 on the season.

Leading the Beavers on the afternoon was Rickenberg with 14 points. The junior also pulled down six rebounds and dished out two assists. LINDSEY BUSH (Howard/East Knox) grabbed a team-high nine boards and tallied three points. Bell added a team-high three assists and contributed five points for Bluffton.

The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 when they travel to Marygrove College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
