Muskingum races to 87-57 victory over the Beavers

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's basketball team struggled to stop a Muskingum College squad which moved the ball extremely well as the Muskies dominated the Beavers, 87-57, on Saturday, November 25, 2006. Following the loss, Bluffton remains winless at 0-4 while Muskingum improves to 2-1 on the season.

Bluffton jetted to a quick 4-1 lead thanks to a LINDSAY BUSH (Howard/East Knox) layup and a pair of GINNY BUCKINGHAM(Bluffton/Bluffton) free throws. The Muskies countered with eight consecutive points before Bush took a feed from ANGIE LEE(Mt. Blanchard/Vanlue) and cut the deficit to three points, 9-6, with 15 minutes to play in the opening half.

Over the next 11 minutes, a turnover-prone Bluffton team mishandled the ball eight times as Muskingum stretched its lead to 17 points, 36-19, at the four-minute mark.

Lee came up big at the end of the half, going 6-of-6 at the charity stripe and knocking down a triple to keep the Beavers within reach, 40-29, at the break.

The Beavers were still down by only 11 points, 52-41, less than five minutes into the second half, when the Muskies took over. Muskingum rolled off 11 straight to take a 63-41 lead with 12:18 to play in the game. Lindsay Bush broke the momentum with a layup and a pair of free throws before TANYA RICKENBERG (Paulding/Paulding) hit from the key at the 10:41 mark to trim the margin to 15 points, 64-49.

15 points was as close as the Beavers could get. Muskingum took advantage of Bluffton turnovers to pull away down the stretch as the Muskies kept the Beavers winless with a 23-8 run over the final 10 minutes for an 87-57 victory in Founders Hall.

Angie Lee led the Beavers with 15 points as she went 6-of-7 at the free throw line. Lindsay Bush was the only other Beaver in double digits, finishing with 14 points, five blocks and four rebounds. AMANDA BELL (Napoleon/Liberty Center) and Rickenberg both dished out three assists while Buckingham pulled down a team-high five boards.

For the game, Muskingum hit 35-of-64 shots from the field (55 percent), including 7-of-15 from outside the arc (47 percent). The Muskies won the battle on the boards, pulling down 37 while limiting Bluffton to 24 rebounds in the contest.

The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, when they travel to Tri-State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Angola, Indiana.
