Bell and Lee named All-HCAC

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University seniors AMANDA BELL (Napoleon/Liberty Center) and ANGIE LEE (Mt. Blanchard/Vanlue) were recently named honorable mention All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for the 2007-08 season. Named to the 2007-08 All-Freshmen Team was KIM MILLER (Delphos/St. John's).
 

Amanda Bell picked up her first honorable mention All-HCAC award after a senior campaign in which the four-year starting guard led the Beavers with her play at both ends of the floor. As a senior, Bell upped her scoring numbers while still displaying a penchant for distributing the basketball to open teammates. She bucketed a career-high 9.8 points per game while also pulling down 106 rebounds (4.2 RPG). Bell drained 36-of-103 three-pointers (.350 percent) and 56-of-77 free throws (72.7 percent). Her 36 triples tied her for seventh on the all-time list at Bluffton. She doled out 62 assists and finished with a team-high 51 steals. For her career, Bell drilled 68 shots from long distance (sixth all-time) and 217-of-312 foul shots (sixth all-time). Bell dished out 243 assists (sixth all-time) and she tied for eighth on the Bluffton career list with 138 steals.

Another four-year standout for the Beavers, Angie Lee, was also named honorable mention All-HCAC by the Heartland Conference coaches following the 2007-08 season. Lee paced the Bluffton scoring attack with 12.7 points per game on 113-of-329 shooting from the field (34.3 percent). Her 40 three-pointers placed her sixth on the all-time single-season list for Bluffton. She connected on 51-of-63 attempts at the charity stripe for 81.0 percent which tied her at seventh on the single-season list for free throw percentage. Lee tallied 317 points, 65 rebounds, 51 assists and 21 steals in her final season. A 15-point performance at home against Defiance moved Lee across the 1,000 point plateau as she finished with 1,059 career points which left her tied for third on the all-time scoring list. Her 78.8 free throw percentage ranks second all-time and her 120 trifectas placed her third on the career list at Bluffton. She made 227-of-288 free throws, pulled down 207 boards and dished out 185 assists as a Beaver.

 

 
 

Kim Miller was honored as a member of the All-Freshmen Team following an outstanding first season at Bluffton. Miller hit 79-of 174 shots from the field on her way to 223 points (8.9 PPG). She went 64-of-79 at the foul line (81.0 percent) and pulled down 162 caroms (6.5 RPG), the third-highest total on the team. Her 108 assists (4.3 APG) led the team and placed her fourth on the single-season list at Bluffton. Miller picked up 36 steals and blocked 13 shots for the Beavers. After just one collegiate season, Miller has established career-highs of 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, along with posting a double-double at Franklin on January 19, 2008.

Bluffton University finished the 2007-08 season with a 10-15 mark overall, including a 4-12 record in HCAC contests. The 10 victories were the most since the Beavers went 12-14 in 2000-01. Bluffton showed marked improvement, losing six Heartland Conference contests by four or fewer points, including two in overtime.
