BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference recently announced the winter honorees of the HCAC All-Academic awards for the 2013-14 school year. Eleven Bluffton University athletes were recognized for their efforts in the classroom. Men's basketball led the way for the Beavers with five honored.
Senior KAYLA MULLENHOUR (Delphos/Jefferson) and sophomores HANNAH KRULL (Lewisburg/Tri-County North) and ALEX PARKER(Alger/Upper Scioto Valley) all got it done in the classroom as well as on the track. Mullenhour was honored following all three seasons in which she was eligible.
Five men's hoopsters earned Academic All-HCAC honors following the 2013-14 campaign. Seniors JONATHAN FOWLER (Cincinnati/St. Xavier), MATT WEISENBORN (Bowling Green/Otsego) and JOSH JOHNSON(Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) all got it done in the classroom as well as on the court. It marked the third straight year that Fowler and Weisenborn were honored. Johnson capped off his time at Bluffton with a second straight Academic All-HCAC award. Junior RYAN EBBESKOTTE(Delphos/Jefferson) also collected Academic All-HCAC honors for the second straight time. Rounding out the five honorees from Bluffton was sophomore BILLY TAFLINGER (Lima/Central Catholic).
Three sophomores from the women's basketball team were recognized for classroom achievement this winter. ABBY JERGER (Middletown/Madison), KAREN WISE (Findlay/Riverdale) and TAYLOR WHITAKER(Mansfield/Lexington) earned Academic All-HCAC honors following their first season of eligibility.
To be named All-Academic HCAC, a student-athlete must have completed a full year at the institution, be a varsity athlete and carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 through the semester preceding the end of the season.
