Beavers take 2nd at Bluffton Spring Invite

BEAVERDAM, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's golf team had a banner day at Hidden Creek on Sunday, April 3, taking 2nd place behind regional power Ohio Northern while re-writing the record books in the process.

Bluffton's 329 on Sunday shattered the 18-hole mark, while the 676 for the weekend left the previous mark of 697 firmly in the dust! The Beavers were just 16 strokes off tournament champion Ohio Northern, a top 50 school in the country.

Freshman Kiley Cline (Fostoria/Hopewell Louden) led the Beavers to a 2nd place finish at the Bluffton Spring Invite. Her 164 set a new school record for 18 holes, while the 80 she fired on Sunday would have been a new school record but for the 75 that junior Haley Gill (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central) shot the same day. She finished the tournament in 2nd place!

After struggling to a 91 on Saturday, Gill found her stroke and rattled off a school-record 75 on Sunday, moving all the way up to 4th for the tournament.

Allie Waggener (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) also had a sensational weekend, shooting 84 and 86 for a 170 which was good for a 7th place finish. Senior Brylee Oberdorf (Green Springs/Clyde) rounded out the scorers for Bluffton with consecutive rounds of 88 for a 176 total (14th). Shelby Stammen (Fort Recovery) had a great weekend as well, firing a 181 as an individual which placed the freshman 17th.

Bluffton will look to build on its work this weekend when the Beavers head to the ONU Invite at Colonial GC on Good Friday, April 15.
