Beavers wreck record book for 2nd straight week

FOSTORIA, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's golf team had its best day in school history when the Beavers carved up Fostoria Country Club with a record-breaking 314 on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023. It broke the one-week old mark by a whopping 12 strokes and the 644 smashed the 36-hole record by eight strokes, another mark that lasted just one week!

Playing on her home course had Kiley Cline (Fostoria/Hopewell Louden) locked and loaded as the junior shot a school-record 74 on Sunday, breaking Allie Waggener's (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) two-week old record by a stroke. Her 152 for the weekend also broke Waggener's mark by three shots. She finished 4th overall in an outstanding field that included three of the best teams from the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Also showing out with a 78 on Sunday was freshman Jordan Hemmelgarn (Coldwater) who fired a 159 which is in the top 5 all-time at Bluffton for 36 holes! Waggener was also all over it with a 162 at the Heidelberg Fall Invitational, giving the Beavers three women in the top 20 of a field that included 80 golfers.

Sophomore Sara Kroeger (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) went 88-83 for a 171, while Shelby Stammen (Fort Recovery) finished the weekend with a 185 (93-92). Freshmen Gabby Green (New Madison/Tri-Village) and Alyssa Begoon (Beavercreek/Carroll) carded 190 and 193, respectively.

Coach Craig had this to say following the record-shattering weekend, "I am extremely proud of the work they have put in for the last month to get to this point. This is the round we needed to show what this group is truly capable of! It is great to have a weekend like we had, heading to a big event at Allegheny next week that we have historically played well at. I am looking forward to seeing what we can do in Pennsylvania and then back at home."

Bluffton travels to the Allegheny College Invitational for a Sunday-Monday tournament starting on September 24 before touching back down in Bluffton for the Beaver Fall Classic on Saturday, Sept. 30!
