Beavers jump into 3rd at HCAC Championship

SELLERSBURG, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's golf team had a round to remember as the Beavers jumped from 5th to 3rd with a school-record 313 at day two of the Heartland Conference Championship on Saturday, May 11, 2024. The 313 is the 3rd-best round by a team at the tournament, trailing just the 300 and 310 by HCAC stalwarts Rose-Hulman.

Bluffton's 650 through two rounds is 2nd all-time for 36 holes and the women are just five strokes back of Transylvania for 2nd place with 18 holes to play! The Beavers are in line for their best-ever finish at the Heartland Conference Championship, looking to improve on their fifth-place showing from a year ago.

Junior Allie Waggener (Hilliard/Bradley) bounced back from her 88 on Friday with a sparkling 76 in round two! She and Hope Manning (South Charleston/Southeastern) are currently tied for 17th overall with identical scores of 164 after Manning shot an 81 on Saturday.

Freshman Jordan Hemmelgarn (Coldwater) was also on top of her game, firing a career-low 77 which was the 5th-lowest score at the tournament on Saturday! Hemmelgarn and Kiley Cline (Fostoria/Hopewell Louden) are both fighting for All-Heartland Conference honors as they are in a six-way tie for 8th through 36 holes (161).

Gabby Green (Beavercreek/Carroll) shot a 96 for the second straight day and she is 30th out of 44 golfers with one round to play.

The Bluffton women will be back at Hidden Creek in Sellersburg for the final round of the year when they tee it up on Sunday morning. Bluffton earned the right to be in the final pairing with HCAC heavyweights Rose-Hulman and Transylvania at 8:50 a.m!
