Women's soccer season comes to a close

October 22, 2001

Bluffton College nearly pulled out their first win of the season Wednesday afternoon, but Manchester College came away with a 2-1 victory in overtime at the Emery Sears Athletic Complex.

It was Bluffton's final match of the season, as a scheduled match last Saturday was cancelled due to a miscommunication with the referees. BC ends the season 0-13-1 overall and 0-6 in the Heartland Conference.

BC seniors Natalie Anderson, Katie Kantner and Kristen McCullough will be greatly missed by the returning players next season.

Bluffton freshman goalkeeper Rochelle Saccomen set the BC single season save record this season with 207 saves. She broke the former record of 193 held by Angie Kestler in 1993.

After a scoreless first half, Manchester's Deanna Quinn put the Spartans on the board with an unassisted goal. Bluffton senior Katie Kantner then scored her second goal of the season with just 2:25 left in the game off an assist from Kelly Dietrick to tie the game at 1-1, which is where it would stand going into the first overtime session.

Manchester's Colleen Kay scored the unassisted winning goal with 3:29 left in overtime.
