BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team (4-5, 0-2 HCAC) came up a bit short in their conference home opener with a 1-0 loss to Defiance College (7-2-2, 2-0 HCAC).

The Beavers were led by Freshman KENZEY MEYER (Hilliard/Hilliard Darby) with two shots on goal.  Senior goalkeeper ROCHELLE SACCOMEN (Ashland/Ashland) recorded eight saves in the match.

Defiance College's Jessica Hoeppner posted the game winning goal in the match at the 39:39 mark of the first half.

"It was a great effort.  Defiance beat us 6-0 last season, so we are making progress," head coach Stever Smucker said.  "I am very pleased with our performance."

The Beavers will be back in action this Saturday at Anderson.  Start time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
