Beavers fall a Defiance, 2-1

October 5, 2006

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team traveled to Defiance College on Wednesday, October 4, to face off against the Yellow Jackets. Although the Beavers struck first, Defiance pushed two second half shots across the line for a 2-1 Heartland Conference victory.

21 minutes into the contest, JESSICA GOOD (Lima/Elida) lofted a shot from the top of the box over the goalkeeper's extended reach to give Bluffton its first lead of the 2006 season. The Beavers continued to fire shots, but the score remained 1-0 as the teams headed into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets knotted the game 11 minutes into the second stanza when HANNA JONEStook a sharp pass from ANGELA GRATZ and drove it into the goal. With the contest up for grabs, DEIDRE TRUJILLO drilled her fifth goal of the year, the game winner, to the inside post off of a free kick at the 73:15 mark.

Much like the men's contest at Defiance the day before, the women's team took 13 shots compared to 15 for the Yellow Jackets. The difference was in accuracy as Defiance placed 10 of its 15 shots on goal while the Beavers were only five-of-13. Bluffton took eight corner kicks while Defiance finished with four.

ASHLEY BLOOM (Tiffin/Calvert) notched eight saves in the contest while Good took four shots, including the Beavers' lone goal as Bluffton fell to 0-10, 0-3 HCAC.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they host the Franklin College Grizzlies at 1 p.m.
