September 17, 2007

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team found itself in another highly contested battle against Shawnee State (5-1-1) on Monday, Sept. 17, before a KAT WESTENDORF goal with four minutes to play broke a 1-1 tie and dropped the Beavers to 1-4 on the year.

In the 12th minute, KELLEY BOWLES took a pass from STACI WHITE and gave Shawnee State the early lead on her fourth goal of the season. The Beavers forced their only two corner kicks of the match during the next 15 minutes, however Shawnee State kept Bluffton from knotting the contest during the first half as the Beavers went to the break down a score.

Freshman NICOLE FREY (Wauseon/Wauseon) picked up a quick yellow card to start the second period and followed that with her third goal of the season in minute 55. ALLISON WHITE(Lima/Shawnee) and MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) combined for three shots on goal during the next 15 minutes as Bluffton continued to pressure Shawnee State.

White forced another SAM ROLSEN save with 10 minutes to play, but Bowles found Kat Westendorf for a Shawnee State goal at the 85:56 mark. SARAH AUSLAND(Coldwater/Celina) and Forquer both fired shots in the last 1:30 of the game, but Shawnee State kept the Beavers from forcing extra time as Bluffton fell by a final count of 2-1.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22, when they welcome Thomas More to Bluffton. The contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
