BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's team completed a soccer sweep of Anderson University on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, with a 2-1 victory over the Ravens, the same score that the men's team posted two hours earlier. The Beavers used their fourth victory in the past six matches to improve to 5-9-1 on the season with a 2-5 mark in Heartland Conference play. Anderson dropped to 4-12-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the HCAC.

Much like the lidlifter, Anderson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when AUBREE THOMAS knocked her shot off SAM WILLIAMS' (Toledo/Bowsher) outstretched hands for her second goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, junior ELYSE BURCKHART (Telford, Penn./Souderton) turned a nice feed from sophomore MEGHAN FORQUER (North Canton/Green) into her second goal of the year and, in the process, knotted the game at one before 15 minutes had elapsed in the contest.

Forquer forced a KELSEY ALCORN save in minute 32, but both teams struggled to put together any sustained offense as the Beavers went to the break with a 1-1 tie.

Williams stopped a TARA SPRAGUE shot to open the second half before Forquer netted her fifth goal of the season just seven minutes into period two.

Both teams traded second half shots as the score remained 2-1 thanks to saves by Alcorn and Williams late in the match. The outcome was still in doubt until MARY SCHEUNEMAN'Sattempt from the box at the 88:49 mark blasted the crossbar and the Beavers pushed the ball to the other end of the field as the clock ran out.

Both team tallied 10 shots in the match with Bluffton placing six on target, one more than the Ravens. Forquer led the Beavers with three shots, including two on target, a goal and her second assist of the season. NICOLE FREY (Wauseon/Wauseon), AMY DAHL (Perrysville/Loudonville) and ALLISON WHITE (Lima/Shawnee) all chipped in with two shots in the victory.

Bluffton was whistled for 11 fouls, eight more than the visitors. For the match, the Beavers forced four corner kicks, compared to two for the Ravens.

Bluffton will bring its 2007 season to a close on Saturday, Oct. 27, when it hosts HCAC rival Mt. St. Joseph. The match is slated to start at 1 p.m.
