Bluffton opens 2009 with 2-1 win at Goshen

Sept. 2, 2009

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team took advantage of two Meghan Forquer (North Canton/Green) goals late in period one to notch a 2-1 victory at Goshen College on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009. The Beavers open the year 1-0 while Goshen (1-1) suffered its first setback of the season after dropping Manchester College by a 2-1 count on Tuesday afternoon.

With both teams struggling to find the scoreboard throughout much of the first half, Bluffton finally broke the ice when Forquer took advantage of a Maddie Moore (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) corner kick at the 40:31 mark for a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later and with just 1:39 remaining in the opening stanza, Forquer again hit paydirt from 35-yards out following a touch from Kourtney Lewis (Arlington/Riverdale). Forquer's second goal gave the Beavers a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Kristina Lopienski cut the deficit in half thanks to an assist from Tahnee Delp in minute 66, but the Beavers slammed the door for a 2-1 win in the 2009 women's soccer opener.

Freshman goalkeeper Molly Martin (Brookville) did the job with seven saves in her first collegiate action. Forquer and Lewis both paced the Beavers with two shots on goal in the victory over the Maple Leafs.

Bluffton returns to action when it travels to Marietta College for a four-team tournament on Saturday, Sept. 5. The Beavers take on host Marietta at 10 a.m.
