Franklin posts 1-0 shutout of Bluffton

FRANKLIN, Indiana - The Franklin College Grizzlies took advantage of a goal less than seven minutes into the contest, scoring a 1-0 shutout of the Beavers on Saturday, October 3, 2009. Bluffton fell to 5-5 on the season (0-2 Heartland Conference), while Franklin improved to 3-8-1 on the season (1-2 HCAC) with its first victory over the Beavers since 2004.

SARAH HUME connected with SHAY SKENE for a header goal at the 6:18 mark of the first period to make the score 1-0. Franklin keeper SARA PERRY and the Franklin defense made that goal hold up as the Grizzlies held on for their first conference win of the season.

Bluffton took nearly twice as many shots as Franklin (23-12), but the Grizzlies placed nine on frame compared to just five for the Beavers. KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale) fired eight shots in the contest. MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) chipped in with six, while CATIE WHITE (Lima/Central Catholic) and KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) added five and four, respectively.

The Beavers forced five corner kicks in the match, four more than their home counterparts. Freshman goal keeper MOLLY MARTIN (Brookville) kept the visitors in the match with eight saves.

The Bluffton women return to action on Wednesday, October 7, when they host Rochester College. The contest is slated to start at 3 p.m.
