BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to rival Defiance College on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Bluffton dropped to 6-7 on the season and 0-4 in the Heartland Conference while Defiance improved to 1-3 in conference action and 4-8 overall.

The Yellow Jackets tallied first as Defiance's ALEXANDRA JOHNSON found the back of the net just shy of the 24th minute with her shot from the far right wing. Defiance increased its lead to two with a goal by Jacket CHERILYN BORKHOLDER nine minutes into the second half. Despite having 13 more shots than the visitors (20-7), the only Beaver to score was sophomore KATY WISBY (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) who scorched the net at the 82:25 mark.

Bluffton poured on the pressure, firing seven shots and forcing five corner kicks in the final 10 minutes, but the visitors were able to stave off the onslaught for their first HCAC victory of the season.

Bluffton's KOURTNEY LEWIS (Arlington/Riverdale) produced six shots, including two on goal. CAITLIN WHITE (Lima/Central Catholic) also generated two shots on goal for Bluffton. Both MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) and Wisby created four shots apiece in the match. Freshman keeper MOLLY MARTIN (Brookville) snatched four saves in the contest.

The home team forced 10 corner kicks during the match and limited the Yellow Jackets to just three. The foul count was close as Defiance was whistled for eight infractions and Bluffton had six.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to face conference foe Transylvania University. The clash with the Pioneers is slated to start at 1 p.m.
