RHIT pulls out 2-1 victory over Beavers

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's soccer team fell to conference opponent Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology by a 2-1 count on Saturday, October 24, 2009. The Beavers dipped to 7-9 on the season and 1-6 in the Heartland Conference, while the Engineers improved to 6-1 in conference play and 7-8 overall.

The Beavers struck first on a kick by Katy Wisby (Lancaster/Bloom-Carroll) that gleaned off the right post for a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute of action. Rose-Hulman answered quickly when Annmarie Stanley notched a goal less than thirty seconds later. The game winner was scored in the 28th minute by Eli Baca. Rose-Hulman outshot Bluffton 13-2 in the first half and 18-6 overall. The Beavers racked up nine fouls in the match.

Katy Wisby and Kourtney Lewis (Arlington/Riverdale) had Bluffton's only shots on goal with Wisby tallying three of the four and Lewis making up the difference. Freshman keeper Molly Martin (Brookville) finished with five saves in the contest.

The Beavers wrap up their season next Saturday, October 31, vs. Anderson University at home. The contest is slated to start at 12 p.m.
